#IdeaMonth Day 9: Free Advice

Many companies (or substitute people, organizations, etc.) pay employees, freelancers, or agencies to execute their social media strategy; many don't. 

Some raise the bar; some leave much to be desired.

Either way, instead of basking in the cynicism of social schadenfreude, why not offer some free advice? Did your Twitter feed get bombed with "I just posted a photo to Facebook" updates? Let them know to change their syndication settings. Embarrassing typo? Let them know. Are they missing out on an opportunity to improve engagement? Let them know.

There's so much more to gain from giving free advice than there is to lose. Be brief, kind, and constructive. And, if it's sensitive, do it via email, phone, or private message.

Do it once a week or more.
